When a member of the Davis family says “Great Northern is a part of our family,” they mean it. All four members of the family work at Great Northern. Kathy and Jeff Davis have been with the company for 35 years. Kathy is currently an account coordinator and an estimator. Jeff is a machine operator working on the new GGX5. Their son Jacob has been fulltime since 2015 and their daughter Emily works part time at Great Northern while attending college.
Jeff says the company offers what most people look for when making a decision about where to work, which is why he’s pleased his children work at Great Northern. “It’s a good company; a stable and profitable company with good pay, profit sharing, retirement and other benefits.”
Kathy appreciates the opportunities to learn and experience a variety of jobs, saying, “The company has helped me grow as a person and, through the years, I’ve grown professionally as well.” Daughter Emily feels the same way, “I have gained a lot of skills and knowledge that will help in all aspects of my life.”
As for the future, specifically the concept of a shared future, Kathy says it’s more than just corporate talk. “It’s about our future as employees and as a company. If you’re successful, the company is successful and they’ll continue to help you.”
And when it comes to family, Jeff says the Great Northern family of coworkers will always have a place in his heart after so many of them stepped forward to help when a fire destroyed their home three years ago. “People we knew from work, and many that we really didn’t know, immediately came to help us and support us in so many ways during that difficult time. It was really kind of amazing and it meant so much.”
