Great Northern's Oshkosh Facility Earns FSC Certification
Chain of Custody Certification Allows FSC Logo on Qualified Packaging

APPLETON, Wis., May 18, 2009—The Oshkosh, Wis., facility of Great Northern Corporation, an industry leader in consumer packaging and displays, has been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) as meeting its stringent chain of custody (CoC) criteria.

"This certification by the Forest Stewardship Council is another testament to our company's Green By Design initiative, which drives our efforts to be environmentally responsible in the way we design, manufacture and deliver our products," said John Davis, CEO of Great Northern Corporation. "It offers added value for our customers looking for ways to differentiate their products with packaging that is recognized as sustainable."

FSC is an independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization established to promote the responsible management of the world's forests. FSC chain of custody certification guarantees that the wood used in the making of packaging and other paper products comes from forests that are managed to meet the social, economic and ecological needs of present and future generations.

"The audits required for CoC certification demonstrate that our electronic tracking systems and our manufacturing systems can guarantee chain of custody ownership from each tree in the forest to each roll of paper that we use to make our high-end retail packaging," said David Derfus, Supply Chain Coordinator at the Oshkosh facility of Great Northern. "This guarantee carries through to the consumers making their purchases in the retail setting."

Great Northern's Oshkosh facility joins the company's Minneapolis operation in having achieved CoC certification by the FSC.
